Baking by numbers- rising together in the community
Baking by numbers- rising together in the community
We’ve been busy working with a fantastic group of first-time bakers within the community, who came together to create some amazing cakes as part of our new initiative- Baking by numbers.
The group of parents from the Caia Park Partnership, joined us back in September. Together we made some delicious Welsh Cakes, combining the enjoyment of learning to bake with everyday numeracy skills. At the end of the session, our bakers not only took away a delicious tray of snacks but also the confidence to follow a recipe, scale quantities and calculate cooking times.
Friendships were formed and we had so much fun watching everyone’s confidence with numbers and baking grow. We even crowned our first star baker!
A passion to share
Baking by numbers was created to combine our passion for bread making and baking, with our wider social mission, to offer training, employment, and lifestyle activities within our local community. We want to make learning sociable, accessible and applicable to everyday life.
Our classes provide an opportunity to share our knowledge of baking delicious food, whilst also incorporating cooking related numeracy skills such as measuring ingredients, calculating ratios, and understanding fermentation times. Our hope is that these skills can then be utilised and enjoyed within the home and community.
Joining communities together
We’ve got more classes planned for the coming months so, if you’re part of a community group and would like to get involved, please get in touch- we would love to hear from you. Our classes are open to all skill levels and will be tailored to meet the needs and interests of each group.
Whilst we wait for our next class, we are very busy renovating our new premises in Rossett. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to find out what’s next for Humble & Whole Bakery.
